At the Sherbrooke Hospital on Sunday, February 21, 1960, Frank E. Beaudry, beloved husband of Emma Bilodeau, in his 77th year, resting at Johnston’s Funeral Chapel, 530 Prospect Street, where the funeral will leave on Wednesday. February 24 for service in St. Patrick Church at 9 a.m. Interment in St. Micheal’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Edilbert Raiche, of L’Avenir

L’Avenir — This community was shocked by the accidental death of Mrs. Edilbert Raiche, who was struck by a truck while walking home from church.

The victim suffered a fracture at the base of teh skull, a fractured jaw and collar bone. She was taken by ambulance to the St. Croix Hospital in Drummondville, where she died a few hours later on Jan. 16 without regaining consciousness. She was in her 53rd year.

Mrs. Raiche, the former Blanche Gagnon, was born here on Feb. 22, 1907, daughter of the late Joseph Gagnon and his wife, Ellen Lefebvre. On July 11, 1933, she was united in marriage to Edilbert Riache. They made their home in Drummondville until 1942, then bought a property here, where they have since resided. Five sons were born of this union, Gaston, Gilles, Jean Guy, Rene and Paul.

The deceased was most capable in every sphere, a model housewife and mother, hairdresser and seamstress. She endeared herself to all who knew her and was regular church attender and active member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne.

Left to mourn are her husband and five sons all of L’Avenir; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Rouillard and Mrs. Armand Fortier, of Sherbrooke, Mrs. Ernest Gagnon, Drummondville and Mrs. Emilien Proulx, Windsor, Ont. six brothers, Irenee, Romero and Albert, Drummondville, Henry, Elizee and Honories of L’Avenirl an aged mother-in law Mrs. Morses Raiche; several sisters-in-laws, brothers-in- law, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in St. Peter’s Church, L’Avenir, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Rev. Jean-Paul Fortier, of Sherbrooke, a nephew of the deceased, chanted the Requiem Mass, assisted by deacon and sub deacon.

The bearere were Gerard Audet, Paul Charpentier, Germain Boulanger, Norman Gagnon, Gerard Cayer and Roger Gagnon, all nephews of Mrs. Raiche. Mrs. Celine Bissonnette was at the organ and a solo In Heaven For Ever, was sung by Auge-Aime Labonte.

Arrangements were under the direction of Daniel Vachon, of Drummondville.

The funeral service of Leon George Garon was held in Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire Church here on Feb 3, 1960.

The body was received at the church by Rev. H. Lisee, priest of the parish and the Mass was chanted by Rev. Armand Hebert, of Ste. Clotilde, Beauce, cousin of the deceased, assisted by deacon and subdeacon, R.P.J. D’Arcy, of Lennoxville, and Rev. Herve Lisee.

Other clergy seated in the sanctuary were Rev. Damien Lessard, superior of the Sherbrooke Seminary. Rev. Raoul Couture, also Sherbrooke Seminary. Rev. J. Desrosier, Canaan, Vt, and Rev. A Petit, of Paquetteville.

The bearers were six grandchildren: George Garon of Rumford,Me., Roger Delisle, Noranda; Peter Garon, Coventry, Vt.; Gerard Lazure, BeecherĀ  Falls, Vt Marcel Garon, Sherbrooke and Robert Gendreau, Boston, Mass. The collection was taken by two grandsons, Roger Delisle and Marcel Garon.

The choirs from St. Isadore and Sawyerville sang; Hubert Couture sang a solo and Laurent Dumont of Cookshire, was at the organ.

The service was largely attended , many coming from Montreal, Quebec City, Lennoxville, Noranda, Rumford, St. Isidore, Drummondville and other points.

Interment was in Cookshire Cemetery.

The deceased is survived by nine children: Mrs. Emilien Lazure, of Sherbrooke; Alyre Garon, Cookshire; Adalbert Garon, Bartlett, N.H. Mrs. Zepherin Rousseau, Sawyerville; Leon Garon, Rouyn, Mrs. Gustave Cartier, Drummondville; Arsene Garon, Sherbrooke, Mrs. Hermas Gendreau, Canaan, Vt. Rosairo Garon, Newport Vt. He also leave 65 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.

 

Levia, J.Nelson A

Richmond–The people of this community were saddened by the sudden death of J. Nelson A. Levis, Sr. retired assistant superintendent of the Portland Sub-division Canadian National Railways, a well known and highly respected citizen of Richmond. Mr. Levia passed at his winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday, Jan. 24, 1960, at the age of 69 years. Although in poor health for some time his death was a shock to all.

The deceased was born in South India, Ont., son of Joseph Levia and his wife Zephaine Lane. He was united in marriage to Violet Anderson of Ottawa, Ont. Sept 26, 1914, of which union eight children were born. He received his education at South India and Ottawa.

Mr. Lewis entered service of the C.N.R. in 1939. Among his duties were those of brakeman, conductor, trainmaster and assistant superintendent.Ā  He came to Richmond in 1944 from Montreal to take over the work here as assistant superintendent. He was a member of the Retired Railway Veterans Association of the Canadian Railways, also of St. Patrick’s Society of Richmond and vicinity. Mr. Levia spent the last five winters in St. Petersburg where he met many old friends and made many new ones.

Left to mourn his loss are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. L. Bowles, Marguerite, Montreal, Mrs. M. Perkins, Dorothy, Danville, and Mrs. W. Stewart, Jean, Miscou Center, N.B. ; five sons, Nelson Jr. Montreal, Harry, Richmond, Wilfred, Montreal, James, Ottawa, and Ralph, Montreal; three sons-in-law, Lender Bowlers, Maynard Perkins, and Wilbert Stewart; five daughters-in- law Mr.s N. Levia, Mrs. H. Levia, Mrs. W. Levia, Mrs. J. Levia, and Mrs. R. Levia. 24 grandchildren; two bothers, Frank of St. Hyacinthe, and Thomas of Battle Creek, Mich.; and a sister, Mrs. A Lebrun, Bertha, of Montreal.

The remains were brought to the J.H. Fleury Funeral Home here whence the funeral took place Friday morning Jan. 29 to Holy Family Church at 11:30 a.m. The Requiem Mass was sung by Father Page, assisted by Falter Nadean as deacon and Father Vincent as sub-deacon.

The church was filled with relatives and friends. The beautiful flowers, masses, telegrams, and letters of sympathy included tributes from the C.N.R. Employees, Richmond; Canadian Canners Ltd., Montreal; Wagstaff Ltd. Hamilton, Ont. C.N. R. Employees, South Paris and Norway, Me.; Ladies Auxiliary, Canadian Legion, Branch 13.

Pall bearers were J.E. Bacon, Jacques Tremblay, E. Charest, G.D.Demers, Gaston Geoffroy, L. Lajeunesse. Honorary bearers were Alfred Geoffroy, E. Nelson, G. Denery, G. Morin, J. Burns, B. Tremblay and T. Shipman. The choir sang Nearer My God To Thee. ]

Interment was at St. Bibiane Cemetery.

At Sherbrooke, Que. on February 20, 1960, Mrs. Emanuel Hauver, in her 88th year. Remains resting at Brien Funeral Parlor, 228 Child Steet, Coaticook, Que., Funeral service on Tuesday, February 23, 1960 at 9 a.m. in St. Jean Evangelist Church, Interment Coaticook Cemetery.
